James Ballard

DR. JAMES L. BALLARD, JR.

Dr. James Lee Ballard, Jr. passed away at his home Thursday, September 20. He was a graduate of Tupelo High School and an enthusiastic alumnus of University of Mississippi where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Dr. Ballard graduated from University of Mississippi Medical School where he was a member of the Phi Chi medical fraternity He completed his dermatology residency at University of Arkansas in Little Rock. He was a Fellow Diplomate of the American Academy of Dermatology, a member of the Mississippi Medical Association and the American Medical Association. Dr. Ballard practiced dermatology in Tupelo for over forty years.

Dr. Ballard was a lover of nature and animals, a scratch golfer and sports enthusiast. He was a devoted fan of Ole Miss athletics, especially football. Dr. Ballard was known as a tender-hearted and generous person who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

A memorial Service will be 12 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Bryant Barnes and Rev. Frank Hutchings, III officiating. A private graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Tupelo Memorial Park. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Dr. Ballard is survived by his wife, Renee Manning Ballard, daughter Mary Vassar Ballard Hitchings and husband Frank Hitchings, III of Lookout Mountain, Georgia; son James Lee Ballard, III and wife Jennifer of Leicester, North Carolina; granddaughters Hannah Catherine Hitchings and Mary Manning Hitchings, and a grandson who shared his birthday, Frank Hitchings IV. He is also survived by two maternal aunts, Mrs. Lucille Brannon and Mrs. Dot Carlock. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mayor James Lee Ballard, Sr. and Vassar Hill Ballard.

Honorary pallbearers are Billy Hughes, Billy Hodges, Irwin Prude, Mickey Holliman, Dick Hill, Dr. Alvin Brent, Dr. Garnett Murphy, Joe Savery, and Dr. Tommy McDonald.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Spay Inc., and Best Friends, 3421 Mossey Cup Drive, Saltillo or to Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church, 316 N. Bragg Ave., Lookout Mountain, TN 37350.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time at the Church.
