Nettleton- Andrew Jackson “Jake” Morris died Sunday, February 19, 2023, at his grandson’s home in Tremont after a short illness. He was born on May 6, 1935, in Berry, Alabama to Columbus Washington Morris, Sr., and Arra Kizzire Morris. In August of 1954, he married Grace Morris; they shared 52 years together before her death in 2006. He had a long career as a Band Saw Operating, retiring from JIT manufacturing. Jake enjoyed dancing, fishing, gardening, and especially spending time with his family.
Jake is survived by his daughters, Vicky Gunter and her husband, Mike, of Plantersville, and Jenny Davis of Nettleton; son-in-law, Robert McCrory of Tremont; brother, Troy “Dee” Morris of Aberdeen; grandchildren, Cindy McCrory of Tennessee, Robbie McCrory of Tremont, Mike Gunter and his wife, Stephanie, of Tupelo. Andy Gunter and his wife, Morgan, of Guntown, Jack Lloyd and his husband, Dub, of Crystal Springs, Shad Davis of Nettleton, Nikki Dunaway and her husband, Wally, of Mooreville, and Byron Goodwin of Nettleton; 11 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Cathy McCrory; son, Andrew Morris; granddaughter-in-law, Candy McCrory; two sisters; and eight brothers.
Visitation will be 4 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at Pegues, Tupelo.
Services honoring his memory will be 2 p.m. Thursday, February 23, 2023, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues with grandson, Robbie McCrory officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
