JACK HAGINS, JR. New Albany - Jack Patrick Hagins, 80, passed away Friday, September 19, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in New Albany after an extended illness. He was born in Columbus, Georgia on May 24, 1934, to Jack Patrick Hagins, Sr. and Charlotte Virginia Wilson Hagins. After graduating from Holly Springs High School, he attended the University of Mississippi, then he was appointed to West Point Military Academy in New York from 1955 to 1956. Jack married the love of his life on April 21, 1956, Michelle Seale in Columbus and together began building a lifetime of memories. His interests included vegetable gardening with his stepfather, cooking his signature dishes, surfing in Hawaii in the 1950's, and collecting stamps and coins. Jack also enjoyed flower gardening, genealogy and creating photo albums. He was an avid reader of Military Civil War books, history and science books. His favorite interest was telling stories to his grandchildren. Jack was a member of First United Methodist Church in New Albany where he was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class and the Men's Club. A celebration of his life will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 22, 2014, at First United Methodist Church in New Albany with Rev. Barry Male officiating. A private family burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Holly Springs. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Michelle Seale Hagins of New Albany; one son, Jack Patrick Hagins, III of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; two daughters, Michelle "Missy" Anderson of Gainesville, Florida and Nancy Hagins Jones of Holly Springs; one sister, Betty McClatchy McAlexander (Charlie); one brother, Sam P. McClatchy, Jr. (Marty) of Slayden; five grandchildren, Lindsey Anderson Pilcher (Kenneth), Bernadette Hagins, Jake Jones, Maggie Hagins and Mary Neely Jones; three great-grandchildren, Naomi Hagins, Liam Hagins and Eddie Hagins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Dr. Sam P. McClatchy, Sr.; and one sister Ruth "Cheri" Hagins Blackmon.
