Mt. Vernon - Jack L. Dillard, 69, died Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after a sudden illness. He was born August 17, 1942, to Leonard Ewing and Billie Quay Short Dillard. A lifelong Lee County resident, he married his high school sweetheart, Sandra Young, and they settled in the Mt. Vernon Community. He worked as a self employed truck driver. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending time with his family. He was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, February 10, 2012, at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Westmoreland officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery northwest of Belden. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Young Dillard of Mt. Vernon; three children, Scott Dillard (Sheri) of Saltillo, Stephen Dillard (Melissa) of Tupelo, and Sherry Flanagin (Mike) of Saltillo; seven grandchildren, Cory (Cassie), Ashton (Joe), Linda, A.J., Courtney, Brandon, and Taryn; and three great-grandchildren, Aubrey, McKinzie, and Adalynn. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Jackeye Lynn. Pallbearers will be Cory Flanagin, A.J. Dillard, Brandon Dillard, Jeremy Kennedy, Tommy Bradsher, Herman Wilson, and James Young. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the North Lee County Water Association Board of Directors. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Saltillo Funeral Home. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service time on Friday. Memorials may be made to The Sanctuary Hospice House, PO Box 2177, Tupelo, MS 38803.
