Tupelo- Jack Stokes Cox, 93, passed away February 14, 2019, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. Mississippi. He was born to Robert Huey and Alma Hamilton Cox on January 29, 1926, and he grew up in the Branyan community in Union county. He graduated from New Albany High School and attended Mississippi State University. He and his wife of 56 years, JoAnn (formerly JoAnn Mitchell from Blue Mountain, MS), lived in Atlanta, Georgia and Memphis, Tennessee until the mid 1970s when they moved to New Albany where they were members of Hillcrest Baptist Church. Jack worked as a sales executive for Diamond International Paper Company and later Dahlonega Packaging. Upon retirement, they moved to Tupelo and began worshiping at Harrisburg Baptist Church.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bill "Harold", Bobby, and Jim; sister, Peggy Colbert; and wife, JoAnn.
He is survived by his daughter, Cyndy Cox McGuire and her husband, Buz of Macon; son, Jeff Cox and his wife, Donna Tutor Cox of Tupelo. Jack was blessed with five grandchildren who loved their “Grand Jack,” Mitchell Cox (Martha), Matthew Cox (Emily), Owen McGuire (Heather), Ann Hamilton McGuire (fiancé, Nick Tripp), and Ferris McGuire (Alexa) and four great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
Jack enjoyed golf, gardening, purple martins, working in his shop, and cooking. He was a regular member of the Hardees Coffee Bunch. But, more than all of those, he loved people – his loving family and warm relationships with good friends near and far.
