J. W. “Frog” Holder
Sherman--J. W. “Frog” Holder, 87, dies Thursday, May 25, 2023 at the North Mississippi Medical Center ER. He was born June 14, 1935 to Walter Lee Holder and Mary Sue Scruggs Holder in Union county. He was a lifelong resident of Sherman, Mississippi. He graduated from Sherman High School. He was a faithful member of Sherman Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon, had served as a Royal Ambassadors Leader, and Sunday School Superintendent.
He had served as an Alderman for the town of Sherman. He was the Grand Marshall of Sherman in 2022. He was active in the Ballpark at Sherman, which they had named after him The J. W. “Jay” Holder Field. J. W. played a big part in the youth programs at the ballpark for many years.
J. W. was a Mason. J. W. was an avid Mississippi State Bulldog fan. He loved all sports. He was also a big fan of Loretta Lynn.
J. W. worked in wholesale sales for Parks and Commercial distributors.
J. W. is survived by his brother Walter Raymond Holder (Dale), his sister Elizabeth Ann Gory, numerous nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog Leo.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at Sherman Baptist Church.
Services honoring J. W. ‘s life will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at Sherman Baptist Church with Bro. Jared Wilson officiating.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Gory, Micah Gory, Drew England, Jay Holder, Barker Collier, and Russell Tate. Honorary Pallbearers will be Don Long, Robert Long, Leland Taylor, Steve Christian, James Bruce, Bobby Brooks, Bill Gray, Tommy Coker, Roger Coker, Rick Coker, Austin Stanfield, and Members of his Sunday School Class.
