J. K. ESTES
Shannon - J. K. ESTES, 79, died Friday, April 20, 2007, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a sudden illness. A native and lifelong resident Shannon, he was born August 20, 1927, to the late Joe Howard and Myrtle Elaine Harris Estes. He was a member of Shannon First Baptist Church. He was in the moving business most of his working life. J. K. was a veteran having served in the United States Navy stationed at Pearl Harbor. He was known for his wit and humor. J. K. was beloved by his grandchildren and great grandchilren who called him "K. K.". Homer, his dog, loved him too.
Services will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2007 in the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Lee Gardner and Dr. Ken Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Shannon Cemetery.
Survivors include His wife of 60 years, Elizabeth "Sis" Estes, of Shannon; one daughter, Karen Burleson and her husband, James, of Shannon; two sons, Ken Estes of Jackson, and Joey Estes of Germantown; one brother, Herman Estes of Shannon; a sister-in-law, Susan Winders and her husband, George, of Verona; four grandchildren, Jeff Burleson and his wife, Jennifer, Mark Bulreson and his wife, Emily, all of Shannon, and Jake and Jarrett Estes both of Ridgeland; six, great grandchildren, Andrew, Hunter, J. D., Kate, Lia, and Rachel Burleson..
He was preceded in death by one sister, Merlene Whiteside
Pallbearers will be Bill Collins, Tony Vinson, Bill Hampton, Keith Simmons, Billy Priest, adn Danny Simmons.
Honorary pallbearers will be the menbers of the Adult Men's Sunday school class at Shannon First Baptist Churh, John Priest, Bill Curtis, Oscar Peay, John Wiygul, James Hallbark, David Smart, Lem Sheffield, Glen Sherfey, and Jake Curtis.
