IRMA GRISHAM
Tupelo - Irma Chambers Grisham, 87, died Monday, June 11, 2007, at Green Houses At Traceway after an extended illness. A Jackson native, she was born July 24, 1919 to the late John and Ethel Weems Chambers. A child of the depression, she graduated high school and went on to earn her undergraduate degree at the Univeristy of Southern Mississippi and later received her masters degree from Ole Miss. She was married to the Rev. James Grisham whom she met at Mississippi Southern. They lived many places and served in several churches during their ministry. She was a 7th grade English teacher at Nettleton School for many years. She was very involved in the Methodist church, teaching Sunday School, playing the piano and leading the Junior Choir. She was also a well loved cub scout leader and den mother. She spent many hours working with youth, having a great impact on many young lives.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. B.F. Lee and Rev. Scott Lees officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include two children, Irma (Betty) Elizabeth Woolard and James R. Grisham Jr., both of Tupelo; a daughter-in-law, Debra G. Grisham of Tupelo; one brother, Albert Chambers and wife, Virginia, of Tupelo; and one sister, Mary Alice Ward and husband, Ed, of San Antonio, Tex.; and two grandchildren, James R. Grisham III and Julie Ann Grisham.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; a daughter, Ethel Ann Grisham; two sisters, Elizabeth Tann and Sally Southerland; and two brothers, Billy Chambers and John Chambers.
Visitation will be noon until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
