Richmond Community – Irene Helms McDaniel, 96, passed away Monday, March 4, 2019 at The Meadows, surrounded by her family. A native and lifelong resident of the Richmond Community, she was born August 14, 1922 to Allen and Maude King Helms. Irene graduated from Plantersville High School and worked for J.C. Penney for a number of years. She married the love of her life and best friend, Eugene McDaniel, in 1943 and they shared forty-nine wonderful years before his death in 1993. For twenty-nine years, she was employed with the Lee County Public School District as Cafeteria Manager at Mooreville High School where she retired. Spending time with her family, especially her grandchild and great-grandchild, was her greatest joy. A devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Irene’s affectionate smile and nurturing spirit will be sorely missed. She enjoyed reading her devotion and Bible every morning and she loved her church and church family. Irene was a lifelong and faithful member of Richmond Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School Secretary for over seventy-five years and was the oldest member at the time of her death.
Survivors include her daughter, Martha Holloway and her husband, Jeff “J.C.” of Richmond; grandson, Jeffrey Holloway and his wife, Mandy of Richmond; great-grand-daughter, Olivia Holloway of Richmond; one sweet sister, Maxine Williams of Richmond; and two sister-in-laws, Sudie Burt of Huntsville, Alabama and Jodie Laney of the Evergreen Community.
