Inelle B. Hurt

Tupelo, Miss. - INELLE HURT, 87, died Sunday, March 9, 2008, at The North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after an extended illness. She was born May 4, 1920, in Bethel S.C. to the late George and Bertha Finch Broadway. She grew up in Sumter, S.C. where she graduated high school. She earned a degree in home economics from Winthrop College. She taught at Memphis Parents' School for the deaf and later as a substitute and adult education teacher in the Memphis Public School. After moving to Mentone, Ala., she also substituted in the public schools there. She was a member of the Federated Women's Club of America. While living in Memphis, she was a longtime active member of Colonial Baptist Church where she was instrumental in the development of the youth ministry. In Mentone, Ala., she and her husband, John were faithful members of the Moon Lake Baptist Church. She was a member of the Camp DeSoto Community and served as Director of Food Services for several years. Since moving to Tupelo in 2005, she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 12 at Calvary Baptist Church in Tupelo with Rev. Steve Hurt and Rev. Phil Hurt officiating. Additional services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Moon Lake Baptist Church, Mentone, Ala., with burial following in Bankhead Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, John Earl Hurt of Tupelo; one daughter, Joy H. Hill and husband, Chuck, of Starkville; two sons, Steve Hurt and wife, Debbie, of Tupelo and Phil Hurt and wife, Marsha, of Mentone, Ala.; special family friend, Sandra P.Graham and husband, Alan, of London, Ky.; eight grandchildren, John H. Hurt and wife, Rosie, of Big Spring, Tex., William N. Hurt of Tupelo, Joshua S. Hurt and wife, Lauren, of Tupelo, Holly H. Thompson and husband, Daniel, of Blue Mountain, 2nd Lt. Charles N. Hill of Starkville, Peter S. Hurt of Sedalia, Co., Stuart B. Hurt of Middlebury, Vt., and Sarah G. Hurt of Mentone, Ala.; four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Pallbearers will be Her grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Funeral Home.
