Saltillo - Howard Thorne, Jr., 68, died Thursday, June 11, 2009, at the Community Hospice at Darlington Oaks after a long battle with cancer. A Booneville native and lifelong resident of North Mississippi, he was born July 22, 1940 to Howard C. Thorne, Sr. and Mildred Joyner Thorne. He was a retired truck driver, a barber for 40 years, and an avid fisherman. He also served in the U.S. Navy.
Memorial Services will be 4 p.m. Friday at The Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues. His ashes will be spread over his favorite fishing spot in Canton at a later date.
Survivors include his son, Michael Thorne and wife, Krista, of Camp Lejeune, N.C.; daughters, Sharon Hawes and husband, Eric, of Eupora, Kristie Bridges of Saltillo, and Amanda Thorne of Hattiesburg; two brothers, Cecil Thorne and wife, Harley Ann, of Tocopola and Billy Thorne and wife, Nina, of Canton; a sister, Liz Anderson of Las Vegas, Nev.; five grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Leroy Thorne and Jerry Thorne.
Visitation will be 3 p.m. to service time Friday at the funeral home.
