HOWARD D. "BLUE" LONG
Tupelo - Howard D. "Blue" Long, 79, died Monday, October 23, 2006, at his residence after a brief illness. He was born October 18, 1927 to the late George Byron and Christine Payne Long. He was a graduate of The University of Mississippi where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and also a graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Law. He was a veteran having served in the United States Army in Korea. He served as Executive Director of the Tupelo Housing Authority until his retirement. He was an avid Ole Miss sports fan and a supporter of the University of Mississippi. He enjoyed drinking coffee with his friends at Connie's and the Tupelo High School Alumni First Thursday Lunch Group. He was a life long Tupelo resident and very knowlegable of the history of the area. He loved his granddaughter and daughter and the time they shared together. He was a member of Gloster Street Church of Christ.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, October 26, 2006 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Bro. Chad Ramsey officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park.
Survivors include his daughter, Rosemary Long Dillard and husband, David, of Tupelo; a granddaughter, Mary Payne Dillard; a brother, Joe Payne Long and wife, Ann, of Clinton; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William Byron Long.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
