Homer Martin

November 13, 1926 — February 15, 2014

WILLIAM H. MARTIN Saltillo - William Homer Martin, 87, went to be with his Savior Saturday, February 15, 2014, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born November 13, 1926, to William and Bertha Martin. A devoted husband, he was married to Jewel G. Martin for sixty-six wonderful years. As a beloved husband, father and grandfather, he will be missed by all who knew him. He worked tirelessly as a Union Brick Mason for a number of years untill a stroke occurred in 1972. A religious man, he loved his family dearly. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon. A veteran, he served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in the Philippines during World War II. He was a Mastor Mason for an impressive sixty-five years. He was also a member of the International Union Of Brick Layers and Allied Craft Workers since 1961. A celebration of life with Military and Masonic honors will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at The Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues. He will be laid to rest at Unity Cemetery. He leaves behind his wife, Jewel Martin of Saltillo; three daughters, Mary Ann McCarley (Bob) of Townsend, MT, Reba Perkins (Butch) of Mobile, AL and Peggy Stacks of Saltillo; two sons, Larry Martin of Saltillo and Jerry Martin (Mary) of Ripley; one sister, Alice Lucille Putt of Saltillo; eight grandchildren, Robert McCarley, Jr. (Jennifer), Chip Perkins (Hilda), Marty Perkins (Mimi), Darlene Perkins, Christy Stacks, Jeremy Martin, Kimmi June McCarley and Marilyn "Sissy" Little; eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James Robert Martin; three sisters, Lillian Dobbins, Clara Parks and Annie Raye Durham and one grandchild, Nan McCarley Members of the Saltillo Masonic Lodge will serve as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be 3 - 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at the Saltillo Funeral Home.
