Hilda Miller

August 30, 1916 — April 9, 2009

Dallas, Tex. - Hilda Shumpert Miller, 92, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, April 9, 2009. She was born August 30, 1916, in Itawamba County to Eythel and Floyd Shumpert. She grew up in Verona, graduated Verona High School and TMI Junior College in Tupelo. A lover of life, and people in particular, Hilda made worlds of friends as she moved around the state with her husband, living in nine cities from Biloxi to Tupelo, McComb to Columbus. She was a devoted mother and wonderful homemaker. After the death of her husband, in 1965, Hilda moved back home to Verona in order to care for her mother. Here in Tupelo she began a new career at Reeds Department Store where she clerked in the Ladies Department for many years before retiring in 1997.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Verona with Rev. Buddy Smith and Rev. Dennis Fink officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

She is survived by her son, Don Miller, Jr and wife, Crys, of Huntsville, Tex.; her daughter, Dr.Ginger Miller Wiygul of Dallas, Tex.; her grandson, Jordan Miller of Las Angeles, Calif.; her granddaughter, Donelle Miller Beal and husband, Dennis, of Bryan, Tex; two great-granddaughters, Ellie and Margaret Beal of Bryan, Tex.; and two nephews, Carroll Conner and wife, Debbie, of Pensecola, Fla., and Bob Seale of Palm Springs, Calif.; and a niece, Margaret Ann Berry and husband, Walter, of Birmingham, Ala.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Eythel Shumpert, her husband, Don Miller, and her sister, Dorothy Conner.

Pallbearers will be Kirk Biddle, Jerry Bost, Mike Gunner, Clifton Hodges, Willie Jennings, and Marcus Posey.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
