Verona - Albert Herman Young, 92, died Friday, May 28, 2010, at the Sunshine Rest Home in Pontotoc after an extended illness. A Lee County native and longtime resident, he was born May 5, 1918 to Albert Clint and Fannie Victoria Moore Young. He was a retired dragline operator, working in the construction business for 30 years. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the US Army from 1944-1946. He married Mamie Caldwell Young April 16, 1939. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed hunting. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Verona.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Gary Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Mamie Young; two daughters, Mary Ann Wood (Gary) and Vicki Mears (David), all of Tupelo; two sons, James Young of Saltillo, Ralph Young (Barbara) of Quitman, and O'Neil Young (Katy) of Pontotoc; one sister, Lois Saxon of Waterford; ten grandchildren, Kenneth Young, Elizabeth Priest (Ed), Matthew Young (Shanna), Greg Wood (Paula), all of Saltillo, Dr. Tom Wood of Jackson, Tenn., Rebecca Miller (Todd) of Tupelo, Lennie Schilling (Ryan) of Hattiesburg, Shellie White (Jordan) of Pascagoula, Kevin Mears of Tupelo, Anna Marie Young of Fulton; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Murry Young; two daughters-in-law, Margaret Young and Dee Young; one sister, Modena Smith and one brother, Talmadge Young.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
