EGGVILLE - Hermon L. "Les" Parmer, 83, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, at the Country Wood Plantation in Mantachie after a long illness. He was born June 23, 1923, in Hamilton, Alabama to Andrew A. Parmer and Altha Knight Parmer. He had been a resident of the Eggville community since 1964. He enlisted on Jan. 23, 1941, and served in World War II with the U.S. Navy. He then joined the U.S. Air Force and served until May 31, 1964. He flew missions during the Berlin Air Lift and served in the Korean War. He retired as a Master SGT with 23 years of service. He loved fishing and hunting.

Graveside services with military honors will be at 2 p.m. today at the Eggville Cemetery with Dr. Gerald Gann officiating. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Elsie G. Parmer of Eggville; four daughters, Jan Leeman and Jack of Seattle, Wash., Carolyn Loftin and Doyle of Richmond, Ore., Dona Furr and Bill of Nashville, Tenn., and Leslia Carter and Steve of Tupelo; one son, Andrew Parmer and Cindi, of Birmingham, Ala.; one sister, Naomi Lee of Tupelo; 11 grandchildren, Lara Vehrs of Seattle, Wash., David Leeman of Snohomisha, Wash., Kiki Vedders of Omak, Wash., Tammy Marcy of Saltillo, Brian Lofton of the Richmond community, Jennifer Strange and Matthew Carter, both of Tupelo, Wendy McMillian of Saltillo, Mark Carter of Oxford, Emily Parmer and Elizabeth Parmer, both of Birmingham, Ala.; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Grady Parmer; and five sisters, Madie Carroll, Lalar Cook, Velma Byrd, Vera Earnest and Nell Lowery.

The military will serve as pallbearers.
