Herman DeVaughn
SALTILLO - A. "Herman" DeVaughn, 96, died Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born Dec. 5, 1910, in Itawamba County to George Herman DeVaughn and Lala Hodges DeVaughn. He had lived in the Fellowship community for 70 years. He was a retired salesman for Kirksey Brothers Furniture Co. with more than 25 years of service. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and a former member of Tombigbee Baptist Church in Itawamba County. He enjoyed farming, gardening, and spending time with his family and friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors. The Rev. Michael Yielding will officiate, and Dan Webb will assist. Burial will be in Stephens Cemetery in Itawamba County.
Survivors include two sons, George DeVaughn (Claudia) of Saltillo and David DeVaughn (Susan) of Corinth; one grandson, Arthur DeVaughn of Saltillo; a niece, Frances Sheffield (Joe) of Mantachie; a nephew, Dan DeVaughn of Montgomery, Ala.; a cousin, Hershel DeVaughn of Florence, Ala.; several other nieces and nephews; special friends, Jon and Sherry Lanphere of Saltillo.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Madice Cole DeVaughn; his parents; two sisters, Jewell Mabry and Tula Frilick; and three brothers, Carlyn, Dan and Paul DeVaughn.
Pallbearers will be Sammy Sandlin, Bobby Sandlin, James "Rocky" Dunaway, Neal Peach, Jimmy Peach, Ronnie Dunaway and Franklin Dunaway.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Dillard, James "Buddy" Dillard, Lamar Dillard, Donald Lanphere, Noel Hubert, Carl McKissick and Jerry Prather and Billy DeVaughn.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Saltillo Chapel.
