Brewer Community - Helen Rogers, 73, died Saturday, September 6, 2008, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. She was born in Lepanto, Arkansas on June 8, 1935 to Clarence and Zelma Walley Shempert. She married James T. Rogers on July 30, 1951. She was a long-time member of the Brewer Community and a faithful member of the Brewer Baptist Church. She moved in 2004 to Cedars Nursing Home and became very involved in charity work with the Red Hat Society Club. She was instrumental in raising money and hand producing beaded jewelery with her best friend, Val Rademaker, for charities such as Sanctuary Hospice House, Muscular Dystrophy, Multiple Sclerosis, the blind and heart disease. She loved everyone at Cedars and will be missed by the staff and residents.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, September 8, 2008 at Brewer Baptist Church with Rev. Sean Tutor and Rev. Joe Dye officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery (south of Plantersville). W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Christie Rogers and her husband, Phil, and Diane Dye and her husband, Joe, both of the Brewer Community; two sons, Doug Rogers and his wife, Sandra, of the Brewer Community and Mike Rogers and his wife, Roxanne of Verona; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and one great-great grandaughter; two sisters, Faye Graham of Scott City, Missouri and Betty Frisbee of the Richmond Community and a special sister-in-law, Emma Jean Mathis and her husband, Junior, of Verona.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, James T. Rogers on October 9, 2003; her parents; one grandaughter, Misty Cox; two brothers, Calvin Shempert and Wayne Shempert and two sisters, Agnes Taylor and Effie Shempert.
Pallbearers will be Lynn Mathis, Lee Mathis, Roy Collins, Holland Dye, Brian Spencer and Greg Ferguson.
Honorary Pallbearers will be her friends and employees of Cedars Nursing Home.
Visitation will be 5 - 8 p.m. Sunday, September 7, 2008 at the funeral home and will continue, Monday, September 8, 2008 at 1 p.m. until service time at the church.
