Helen Coker

March 15, 1929 — June 3, 2008

Macedonia - Helen L. Coker, 79, died Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. A Birmingham Ridge native, she was born March 15, 1929 to Pruitt and Cecil Hendrix Bolen. Earlier in her life, she worked for Hunter Sadler as a seamstress and then as school cafeteria manager at Belden and later at East Union High Schools. She retired in 1985 from Kroger as head deli clerk. While most of her life was spent taking care of her family, she also enjoyed working in her flowers, spending time with her sister and reading her Bible. She was a longtime member of Tri County Baptist Church.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. David Walters and Rev. Billy Foster officiating. Burial will be in McNeil Cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Lisa Coker of Memphis; five sons, Larry Coker of Macedonia, Danny J. Coker and wife, Sue, of Sherman, Rickey Coker and wife, Jenette, of Macedonia, Roger Coker and wife, Lana, of Sherman, and Tommy Coker and wife, Dana, of Sherman; one sister, Mary Holloway and husband, Calvin, of Macedonia; one brother, John (Sonny) Bolen and wife, Liz, of Tupelo; her sister-in-law, Sherry Bolen of Sherman; 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Hub, Dewell, and Leon Bolen; the father of her children, Homer Coker.

In honoring her request, her children will serve as Pallbearers.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
