Tupelo Helen Peggy Cassibry Hinds died at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, Mississippi on March 21, 2010. She was born December 14, 1914 to Joyce Rand Cassibry and Hugh Wilton Cassibry in Bond, Mississippi. She lived at 324 East Beach in Gulfport, Mississippi until her marriage at her home to Joseph Miller Hinds on July 13, 1935. Prior to her marriage and after attending Gulf Park College and Mississippi State College for Women, she worked as a commercial artist in Mobile, Alabama.
She and her husband of 53 years lived in several Mississippi towns where Mr. Hinds worked for Mississippi Power and Light Company including Jackson, Vicksburg, Greenville, retiring in Brookhaven, Mississippi. In 1972 they moved to Ocean Springs, Mississippi where Mrs. Hinds was active in Daughters of the American Revolution, Friends of Walter Anderson Society, St. Marks Methodist Church, and Ocean Springs Art Association. She was a prolific and talented artist and won numerous awards for her art.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1988, and her brother Hugh Wilton Cassibry, Jr. She was a devoted wife, mother, and friend to many art buddies as she liked to refer to her companions. She is survived by four children, Joe M. Hinds, Jr. (Jamie) of Avon, Colorado, George Walton Hinds (Kitty) of Huntsville, Alabama, Howard Rand Hinds (Sara) of Tupelo, Mississippi and Mary Joyce Laycock (Jim) of Gulfport, Mississippi; seven grandchildren, Rev. Joe M. Hinds, III (Kazy) of Sidney, Ohio, Joy Robinette (Barry) of Huntsville, Alabama, Betsy Bean (Chuck) of Gallatin, Tennessee, Joyce Szretter (Gary) of Huntsville, Alabama, Patricia Hinds of Huntsville, Alabama, Rand Hinds (Julie) of Tupelo, Mississippi, Julie Hinds Taylor (Michael) of Daphne, Alabama; and twelve great grandchildren.
Her life will be celebrated by a memorial service to be held in early May in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Memorials may be made to United Methodist Senior Services, Sanctuary Hospice House, Ocean Springs Art Association, or a favorite charity.
