Mantachie - Hazel Banks Hand, 83, died Tuesday, December 16, 2008, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. She was born July 28, 1925 in Arkansas to Arthur and Willie Banks. She was retired from Stanley Hardware. She lived 42 years in Tupelo before moving to Mantachie five years ago. Her life revolved around her family, as she helped raise her grandchilren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was a Pentecostal
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Bro. Timmy Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include her daughter, May Hand of Tupelo; two sisters, Neddie Myers of Indianappolis, Ind. and Sylvia Banks of Ohio; ten grandchildren, Melinda,Johnny, Robert, Leroy, Sherry, Donna, Jessie, Keith, Karen, and Jeff; 35 great-granchildren, and 25 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; her daughter, Faye Whaley; one sister, and several brothers.
Pallbearers will be Hunter Whaley, Josh Vanstory, Matt Vanstory, Joey Vanstorey, Zack Vanstory, and Rusty Hand.
Honorary Pallbearers will be her great-grandsons.
