Hattie White

BELDEN " Hattie Bryson White, 105, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at Rosewood Residence after an extended illness. She was born April 24, 1902, in Union County to C.B. and Emma Jane Pannell. She retired from Kermits Bakery after more than 30 years. In her earlier years, she taught school.

During the 1930s she married Frank Bryson. When she was 87, she married E.L. White. She was the oldest member of the First Baptist Church. She never met a stranger and loved being with family and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. Bobby Robbins and Dr. Randy Von Kanal officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park.

Survivors include four stepchildren, Joyce Vinson (Alvin) and Charles W. White (Tina), both of Saltillo, Nell Foster of Louisville and Martha Elizabeth Wurtle (Jack) of Jackson, Tenn.; one sister, Bessie Burnett of Charleston; three nieces, Billie Jo Rooker of Villa Rica, Ga., Doris Perry of San Francisco and Dorothy Hopkins of Long Beach; many great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her second husband, Elvin L. White; 10 stepchildren, Newell McDowell, Nongeon Lipsey, Guin Eggers, Cathern Monagan, Hazel Woodward, Bill Bryson, Jimmy Bryson, Jay Bryson, Jack Bryson and Loyce L. White; two sisters, Myrtle Pannell and Arlena Owens; and one brother, Joe Pannell.

Pallbearers will be the Rev. Billy Lee Foley, Larry Hopkins, Joe Bryant, Doug Dickey, Steve Vinson and Dr. John Bryson.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
