HAROLD BLACK Tupelo - Harold Elzie Black, 88, died Saturday, November 3, 2012, at The North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born July 16, 1924, in Jasper, Alabama to James Riley and Velia Privett Black. He loved his Airstream trailer and traveled with Era throughout the US and Canada and enjoyed getting lost. He loved his family, friends and his church. Chalmette, Louisiana was their home since 1953 until Hurricane Katrina brought them to Tupelo. He enjoyed his newfound friends and gathered together at the American Legion every Friday. He was an avid gardener and loved to cook and baked a cake every day. He was a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 9, 2012 at Harrisburg Baptist Church with Rev. David Smith officiating. Body will lie in state one hour prior to services Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors will be in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include his wife of sixty-six years, Era Chris Jones Black; one daughter, Melinda Trapp (Dr. James Trapp) of Pontotoc; two sons, H. Lee Black MD. of Mansfield, Texas and Jimmy Black (Jolene) of Frankinton, Louisiana; three brothers, Carl Black (Ilene) of Jasper, Alabama, Ben Black (Joy) of Birmingham, Alabama and Wendell Black (Sarah) of North Carolina; one sister, Carrie Mae Black of Jasper, Alabama; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Eldred Black. Pallbearers will be Jerry Shelton, Jason McDuffie, Steve Helton, Ed Easterling, Russell Black, Kevin Miller, Jake Helton, Larry Cole and Staff Sergeant Michael Owen. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Rieves, W.L. Helton, Wendell Trapp and Ernie Lucas. Visitation will be 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 9, 2012 at the church.
