Tupelo - Harold Altom, 80, died Sunday, December 12, 2010, at his residence in Tupelo. He was born in Pontotoc County on October 6, 1930 to Norbin and Jettie Robins Altom. After graduating from High school he attended Draughans Business College and later Itawamba Community College. He joined the United States Army in 1952 and served in the Korean war as an engineer and a Supply Sergeant. After his service in Korea he remained with the Reserve until September of 1959. He spent the his civilian working life in the banking business. He spent many years with Citizens Bank before joining Bancorpsouth. He rose in the ranks to Senior Vice President of Bancorpsouth before retiring after 27 years of service. He was a Baptist.
Services will be 9 a.m. Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Clyde Porter officiating. Burial will be in Endville Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Steve Altom (Sheree); one granddaughter, Jessica Jones both of Shannon; one grandson, Randy Gray; one great-grandson, Hayden Jones; one sister, Alice Jean King (Phil) of Belden; one niece, Alicia Powell (Mike) of Saltillo; one nephew, Jeff King (Angie) of Tupelo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Phillip King, Jeff King, Mike Powell, Mike Altom, Guy (Hayes) Altom and Charles Richey.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Ray Altom and Richard Gatlin.
Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m. Monday, December 13, 2010 at the funeral home.
