HARLEY FRITZ
Tupelo - Harley William Fritz, 80, died Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at his residence after an extended illness. A Wisconcin Rapids native, he was born October 20, 1925 to the late Miles and Ione Fritz. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran, serving as a gunner pilot during World War II. He entered the service at age 15, and after being shot in the line of duty, he was released from active duty when his age was discovered. Upon his release from the Air Force he then joined the Army and served as a cook throughout the remainder of his tour of duty. His trade served him well. He worked as a chef for fine supper clubs in the Midwest for over thirty years, managed the Old West Town of Medora, South Dakota, as well as owning and operating two pizza restaurants. His last position before retirement was as cook for Chino Women's Prison in the state of California. He married his loving and devoted wife, Lorene Aldrich Fritz, November 15, 1947. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus where served as the Grand Knight of his chapter and Deputy Grand Knight for two years.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2006 at St. James Catholic Church with Father Henry Shelton officiating. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Corinth National Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Lorene Mae Aldrich Fritz of Tupelo; two daughters, Mary Grothem of Calif. and Teresa Strange and husbgand, David, of Tupelo; one son, Neil Fritz and wife, Diane, of Wisconsin; ten grandchildren, Jeffery, Jeremy, Kristina, Thomas, Sarah, Stacey, David, Nathn, Dawn, and Nichael; and 15 great-grandchildren..
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at the church.
