HANSEL SCRUGGS Okolona - Hansel Scruggs, 90, died Friday, August 24, 2012, at his residence, after a lengthy illness. A native of Sherman, he was born January 10, 1922, to Charles Cecil and Lula Elizabeth Bolton Scruggs. He served in the U. S. Army Signal Corp during WWII and participated in the Allied Invasion of Normandy. For 35 years he worked with the Okolona Electrical Department. He was an avid vegetable gardener and enjoyed sharing his harvest with others. He was a longtime and faithful member of Okolona First Baptist Church, where he served a deacon. He was known for loving his family, church and ministering to others. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 27, 2012 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Dr. Roy McHenry and Dr. David Eldridge officiating. Burial will be in Sherman Cemetery. Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Mary Yancey Hood Scruggs of Okolona; one daughter, Gail Burton (Rick) of Friona, Texas; one son, Robby Scruggs (Pam) of Tupelo; two step-daughters, Johana Inman (Newell) of Lambart and Elizabeth Booth of Jackson; one brother, Cecil Scruggs of Greenville, Texas; seven grandchildren, Clay Scruggs (Sheri) of Atlanta, Georgia, Jim Burton (Heather) of Wynona, Elizabeth Garza (Noel) of Nashville, John Mark Scruggs (Caroline) of St. Louis, Missouri, Christine Norris (Sam) of St. Simon Island, Georgia, Allen Inman (Amber) of Jackson and Cliff Booth of Jackson; seven great-grandchildren, Hailey Burton, Sydney Scruggs, Josh Scruggs, Sam and Elizabeth Norris, Carter Inman and Issac Booth. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eber Lucille Robison Scruggs in March 23, 1978; four brothers, Cliff, Cright, King and Robert Scruggs; two sisters, Erma Finney and Mary Sue Holder. Pallbearers will be Clay Scruggs, Jim Burton, John Mark Scruggs, Jimmy Clifton, Walter Holder, Johnny Campbell, J. W. Holder and Steve Robison.
