SHERMAN - Guy Thomas Mitchell, 88, died Saturday, June 9, 2007, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford after a brief illness. He was born march 23, 1919, in Sherman to the late James Perry Mitchell and Evie McCraw Mitchell. He was a resident of Sherman all of his life except for one year, 1950, in Tupelo. He worked for Parks and Company in Sherman about 35 years as a sales rep. He retired from Champion Mobile Homes in Sherman in 1979 as a cabinet maker and from 1980 until 2003 he was a house painter. He was a member of Sherman Baptist Church, an avid sportsman and sports fan, and a charter member of the domino group in town.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. David Westmoreland officiating. Burial will be in the Sherman Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Dixie Germany Mitchell; one daughter, Martha Ann Swindle and her husband, Jeremy, of Sherman; one son, James Robert "Bob" Mitchell and his wife, Sandra, of Sherman; one grandson, Chris Mitchell of Endville; three great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Kimberly and Kamran; and one brother, James Marvin Mitchell and his wife, Mary Evelyn, of Tupelo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Lavaida Randle; two brothers, Raymond Mitchell and Tyson Mitchell; and one grandson, Michael Mitchell.

Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Mitchell, Clarence Westmoreland, Wayne Gentry, Will Pugh, Steve Chapman, Terry Simmons, Frankie Daniels, Jimmy Richey and James Vernon Davis.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
