Guy Gravlee

February 15, 1953 — June 4, 2010

Tupelo - Guy Justis Guy Bo Gravlee, III, 57, died Friday, June 4, 2010, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after a sudden illness. A native of Tupelo, he was born February 15, 1953 to Guy Justis and Joyce Tyler Gravlee, Jr. A 1971 graduate of Tupelo High School, he then went on to Mississippi State University where he graduated with Bachelors and Masters Degrees in education. While at Mississippi State, he served as a trainer for the Mississippi State Football Team and was a member of the M Club. Later, he attended Nursing School at Itawamba Community College where he received an Associates Degree in nursing. He worked for several years as an ER and ICU nurse in Tupelo and Memphis. For the past 24 years he has worked as a pharmaceutical representative for Roche Pharmaceuticals. He volunteered many years of service to his community by serving as a reserve officer for the Tupelo Police Department. One of his favorite assignments as a reserve officer was accompanying Tupelo High School sports teams to out of town games. He was an avid MSU and Tupelo High School sports fan. He enjoyed playing golf and listening to St. Louis Cardinals baseball. He loved and was very devoted to his family. He had a special place in his heart for dogs, especially his golden retriever named Lucy. He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church for fifty years where he had been director of the young adults class and had taught Sunday School with the jail ministry. He was presently serving as Church Clerk and as a Deacon. He was one of whom it could be truly said that he never met a stranger. He was a man with a very big heart and will be missed by all who knew him.

Services will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, June 7, 2010 at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. David Eldridge and Dr. John Armistead officiating. There will be visitation one hour prior to service time Monday at the church. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of ten years, Myara Coutoumanos Gravlee of Tupelo; one daughter, Sarah Gravlee Otts (Michael) of Saltillo; two step children, Jason Hall (Cindy) of St. Louis, MO, and Christie Hall Gaillard (Kerry) of Tupelo; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy and Joyce Gravlee Jr. of Tupelo; two sisters, Lynn McAlpin (Jim) of Tupelo, and Joy Kellum (Mark) of Tupelo; four step grandchildren, Claire Loden, Zane, Atlin, and Grae Hall, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Justis Michael Otts.

Pallbearers will be Bill Sisk, Jim Beane, Straton Karatassos, Mimi Pegues, Chris Hardwick, and Harry Jackson .

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 6, 2010 at the funeral home.
