Plantersville - Grover Cleveland “Bud” Powell, 81, passed away Monday, February 11, 2019, at his residence surrounded by family. He was born in Moorhead on June 20, 1937, to Clevon and Myrtle Mae Evans Powell and grew up in York, Alabama. Bud answered his Nation’s call and served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He then flew with S.A.C Looking Glass, worked at NORAD and then with the Joint Chiefs of Staff and after 25 years of dedicated service retired as a Chief Master Sergeant and was a Bronze Star recipient. In 1969, he married Eugenia Kennedy and they shared 16 wonderful years together before her passing in 1985. After retiring from the Air Force, he received his Associates Degree in HVAC and worked for a number years at Sears. Grover was an active member of VFW Post 4057 and First Baptist Church Plantersville.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Brolliar and her husband, Steve of Madison, Alabama and Donna Swann and her husband, Tim of New Albany; six grandchildren, David Brolliar of Rockledge, Florida, Breanna Smith and her husband, Phil of Athens, Alabama, Stephanie Brolliar of Athens, Taylor Stubblefield and her husband, Nathan of New Albany, Seth Brolliar of Madison and T.J. Swann of New Albany; two great-grandchildren, Anna Rose Smith and Nikki Medina; one sister, Mildred Johnson of Leeds, Alabama; two brothers, Calvin Powell and his wife, Sue of Marshall, Texas and David Powell and his wife, Muriel of Cuba, Alabama; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 16 years, Eugenia Powell; three sisters, Maggie Smith, EmmaLee Heritage and Virginia Byrd; and two brothers Jack and Olan Powell.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at W.E. Pegues, Tupelo.
Services honoring his life will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Bro. Danny Balint officiating. Graveside services with Military honors will be in Plantersville Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be his friends from the VFW Post 4057.
