Gretchen Ramsey

October 16, 1930 — August 11, 2008

Tupelo " Gretchen Long Ramsey, 77, died Monday, August 11, 2008, at The Sanctuary Hospice House. She was born October 16, 1930 to Lynn Julian and Hazel Cates Long in Albany, Ga. Mrs. Ramsey was native of Asheville, N.C., but she always considered Tupelo her home. She was married to James C. Ramsey. She generously volunteered her time with many organizations including The Salvation Army, North Mississippi Medical Center, the Symphony League and the Sanctuary Hospice House. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed the time she spent with her many friends and family.

Memorial Services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Tom Groome officiating. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Dailey and husband, Terry, of Saltillo; two sons, James Clay Ramsey, Jr. and wife, Tammy, of Independence, Mo. and Brad Ramsey and wife, Mellgwin, of Marietta, Ga.; two brothers, Lynn Long and wife, Kitty, of Fayetteville, N.C. and Russell Long and wife, Charleen, of Black Mountain, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Erin Ramsey, Jennifer Ramsey, Max Ramsey, Sam Ramsey, Julian Ramsey, Monroe Ramsey, and Walt Ramsey.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 49 years, James C. Ramsey; and one brother, John Long.

Visitation will be 1:30 p.m. until service time Thursday at the McFadden Hall of First Presbyterian Church.
