Glen K. "Buck" Denman
Evergreen Community - Glen K. "Buck" Denman, Jr., 87, died Monday, May 14, 2018, at Oak Tree Manor Assisted Living in Amory after an extended illness. He was born in Morganton, North Carolina August 1, 1930, to Glen K. Denman, Sr. and Mannie Harold, but he called Charleston, South Carolina home. Early in life, he worked on a shrimp boat and tug boat before he moved up north and completed an apprenticeship to become a carpenter. Once he completed his apprenticeship, he worked for a company in the Chicago Metropolitan area restoring old mansions. On August 31, 1957, he married Bobby Jean Ridings. Later in life, he and his wife owned and operated the 78 Motel in Tupelo for 35 years. After his retirement, he worked with the Corp of Engineers on the Tenn-Tom Water Way. Buck was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and held a dual membership in the Richmond Lodge and Tupelo Lodge 318. He was also a Shriner and was very active in providing transportation to sick children and their families to the Shriner Children's Hospital until his decline in health. He loved woodworking and had completed numerous projects including all types of furniture, cabinets, boats and guitars, some of which were made from cigar boxes. He enjoyed planting and tending to a garden so his wife could put vegetables in the freezer for family and friends to enjoy eating. Buck found great joy in lighthouses, ships and was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Glen E. "Bucky" Denman of the Saltillo area; his caregivers: his niece, Brenda Robinson and her husband, Donald of Amory, Judy Chumney of the Evergreen Community and his nephew, Robert Lee Kozlowitz and his wife, Betty of the Evergreen Community; one grandchild, Christine Feather Denman; numerous nieces and nephews; and one close friend, George Robert Pettigrew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Vivian "Tink" Watts.
Services with a Masonic Ritual will be 12 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Bro. Jim Manly officiating. Lee Barnes will lead the Masonic Ritual. Burial will be in New Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at W.E. Pegues, Tupelo.
Pallbearers will be Bubba Bennett, Jeremy Loden, Sydney Kozlowitz, Jerry Harris, Garron Roby and Donald Robinson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Lee Kozlowitz, Wayne Ray, Larry Putt and members of both Masonic Lodges.
