Gladys Stanphill

TUPELO - Gladys E. Stanphill, 75, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, at the North Miss. Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was born May 11, 1932, in Itawamba County to Ed Barrett and Mamie Deavall Barrett. She had lived in the Carolina community of Itawamba County all her life. She was retried from the garment industry as a seamstress. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy. She loved sewing, writing and cooking for her family, especially desserts, pecan pies, strawberry cakes and best of all, her banana puddings.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. Ray Stevens officiating. Burial will be in the Carolina Cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Joy Jean Gray and Ricky of Dorsey/Evergreen community; two sisters, Jewell Lamb of Belden and Sue Enlow of the Carolina community, who was her caregiver for last seven years; two special nieces, Bobbie Carr and Tony of Shannon and Prenntiss Norris of the Carolina community; a special family friend, Jay Otts of Belden; six grandchildren, Jenia, Jessica, Ricky, Amy, Elysia and Douglas; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two children, Tommy and Douglas Stanphill.

Pallbearers will be Scott Roberts, Ricky Gray, Tony Carr, John Barrett, Ricky Lee Gray Jr. and Ray Enlow.
