Pensacola, Fla.Gladys Hunt Ballard Clayton died peacefully on December 16, 2010 surrounded by family and friends. She would have been 83 on Dec. 17. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tupelo and Germantown Presbyterian in Germantown, Tenn. Gladys loved life, her needlepoint and bridge. All those who knew her will miss her love, quick wit and laughter.
Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at Tupelo Memorial Park with Dr. Steven Clound of Pensacola, Fla. officiating. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her children, Morgan Ballard Shelton (Jerry) of Pensacola, Fla., Stanford Herron Ballard (Sandy) of Mantachie, India Ballard Davis (Glenn) of Bessemer, Ala., and Gina Ballard Stonich (Richard) of Baton Rouge, La.; four grandchildren, Skip Shelton (Jennifer) of Pensacola, Craig Shelton (Lenora) of Pensacola, Nikki Ballard of Tupelo, and Andrew Davis of Bessemer; seven great-grandchildren, Paul, Jackson, Justin, Aiden, and Dillon Shelton of Pensacola, and Brice and Brooklyn McCoy of Pensacola.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wyble Clayton; one brother, Stanford Herron Hunt; and two sisters, Dora Collins and Virginia Meadow.
Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Palmer Childrens Home or Covenant Hospice of Milton, Fla.
