GETHIE PARKER SCOTT
Tupelo - GETHIE EVELYN PARKER SCOTT, 90, died Monday, January 7, 2008, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. A Lee County native, she was born July 14, 1917 to the late Lamar Brown and Iva Derrick Parker. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Guntown where she served as a pianist for 14 years. She was known as a talented pianist and organist and served at Belden Baptist Church for 37 years. She had also served for 6 years at Grace Memorial Baptist Church and several years at Wildwood Baptist Church. She also played for several quartets such as The Elzie McKinney Quartet, the Cecil Carter and New Albany Quartet, Talmadge Smith and the Tidesmen Quartet and numerous revivals. She was also an avid Tupelo Golden Wave basketball fan and was honored many times by the program for her continuous support.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Horace Thomas and Rev. Bobby Robbins officiating. Burial will be in Belden Cemetery.
Survivors include four children, Jimmie Dale Farrar, of Tupelo, Donald Scott (Pamela) of Belden, Sharon Smith (Talmadge) of Belden, Mitzi Davis (Andy) of Tupelo; seven grandchildren, Tammy Pearson of Starkville, Tim Farrar of Saltillo, Melissa Sisk of Brentwood, Tenn, Perry Smith of Hattisburg, Summer Riles of Tuscaloosa, Ala, Scott Davis of Tupelo, Tori Davis of Tupelo; 12 great-grandchildren, Bo, Lee, Ali, Meg, and Drew Pearson, all of Starkville, Connor Farrar of Saltillo, Claybrook, Walker, Jack and Riley Sisk of Brentwood, Tenn., Katlin Smith of Baldwyn and Madison Smith of Hattisburg; and several nieces and nephews; special friends, Ivy and Strattie Duvall, Barbara Safford, and T.G. and Carolyn Parmer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James O. Scott; a daughter, Peggy Scott Azlin and husband, Donald Azlin; a son-in-law, Charles W. Farrar; one sister, Montez Temple; five brothers, Howard, Clyde, Ed, Hulon, and Johnny Parker.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Tim Farrar, Bo Pearson, Perry Smith, Chris Riles, Brian Sisk, and Scott Davis
Honorary Pallbearers will be the men of First Baptist Church of Guntown.
Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
