GERTRUDE DAUGHERTY Tupelo - Gertrude Daughety, 91, died Monday, January 21, 2013, at Cedars Heathcare Center. She was born May 25, 1921, in Stonewall in Clarke County, to John Spencer and Mary Smith Wade. She lived in Tupelo since the age six and was a 1939 graduate of Tupelo High School. On January 1, 1951, she married her husband Gerald Daugherty, who preceded her in death on September 5, 2008. She worked in the Social Security Administration and retired after twenty-six years of service. She loved her family, grandchildren and friends. She was an avid reader and enjoyed needle point work. She was also a member of Tupelo First Baptist Church and greatly loved her Sunday school class. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Chad Greyson and Rev. Ricky Young officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Coward (Phillip) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; two special grandchildren, Christopher Coward (Paige) of Bay St. Louis and Katherine Elizabeth Coward of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; one special sister-in-law, Linda Daugherty of Chesterville; two special nieces, Cheryl Camp of Guntersville, Alabama and Beverly Holt of Athens, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Daugherty; her parents; one sister, Clotilde Sanders. Pallbearers will be Chris Coward, Philip and Robert Long, Gary and Bill Easterling and Bryan Henderson. Honorary pallbearers will be the doctors and staff at the Family Medical Residency Center, the members of her sunday school class and her friends at Trace Way-Manor. Visitation will be 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Tupelo in her honor, 501 W. Main Street, Tupelo, MS 38804.
