Geri Gunter McCarty

Geri Gunter McCarty died February 24, 2025, at the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice Unit after a brief illness. Geri was born on June 6, 1948, to Herman Gunter and Lula Ramsey Gunter. On September 10, 1965, she married Kenneth McCarty Sr. and they had four children. For 43 years, they built a warm and loving home and were inseparable until his death in 2009. Geri was the quintessential Mon and Nana, always putting her family first. Her greatest joy in life was her children, grandchildren, family, and pets. There was never a baby or animal that didn’t love her!! She enjoyed bird watching, doll collecting, and flower gardening in her younger years.

Geri is survived by two children, her daughter, Christy Comer (Woody) of Tupelo and her son, Todd McCarty of Palmetto; four grandchildren, Chance McCarty (Kristen), Abby Comer, Katelyn Seiler (Henry), and Noah Comer (Hannah); two great-grandchildren, Sayli James Comer and Baby Girl McCarty, due this summer. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Michelle McCarty; three sisters, Sandy Biereichel, Sandra Strickland, and Annette Millsap; her brother, Rusty Gunter; her aunt, Pat Holloway; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Lula; her husband, Kenneth Sr.; two sons, Ken McCarty Jr. and infant Christopher McCarty; special grandmother, Lavona Wheeler Gunter; sisters, Joyce Lamb, Ann Lauderdale, Nita Swan, Vicki Gunter, infant Sylvia Dale Gunter; and brothers, Ted Ramsey and infant Herman Gunter Jr.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at Pegues, Tupelo.

A celebration of Geri’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues with Rev. Blake Buchanan officiating. Graveside services will follow at Gilvo Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Chance McCarty, Noah Comer, Henry Seiler, Chris Lauderdale, Greg Lamb, and MJ Triplett.
