TUPELO - Gerald "Pop" Whitaker, 64, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at the North Miss. Medical Center after a sudden illness. He was born Aug. 30, 1943, in Lee County to Derah Lee Whitaker and Mamie Lucille Phillips. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Germany as a medic and dental assistant. He was a former employee of F.M.C. and as the Security Captain at the Mall at Barnes Crossing and the Lee County Sheriff's Department as a jailer. He was a Pentecostal. He pastored the Cannan Assembly of God Church in Booneville and Faith Assembly of God Church in Tupelo. He loved fishing and hunting, cooking and making quilts.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors with the Rev. Merle Floyd officiating assisted by the Rev. Odell Hester. Burial will be in the Friendship Cemetery in Guntown.

Survivors include two daughters, Ann Davis of Tupelo and Mandy Bradley of Horn Lake; one son, Nathaniel Whitaker and Michelle of Tupelo; one sister, Jean Lewis of Fayetteville, W. Va.; six grandchildren, Chelsea Davis, Shelby Davis, Taylor Davis, Anna Whitaker, Jacob Bradley and Justin Bradley; 11 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Jimmy Lee Whitaker.

Pallbearers will be Doug Whitaker, Jimmy Whitaker, Adrian Bradley, Mike Wages and Jerry Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Pacer Mink, Rob Holley, Taylor Davis, Skyler Collin and Jacob Sheffield.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
