GERALD WAYNE HAND



Pontotoc - Gerald Wayne Hand, 65, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at his home surrounded by his wife and children by his side. Gerald was born on January 4, 1948, to Jeffer Nordean and Lourie Marie Berryhill Hand. After he graduated from Saltillo High School, he joined the United States Army and faithfully served his country during the Vietnam Conflict and was also for a time was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He was a fireman with the Tupelo Fire Department from 1970-1978. He married Pam Clippard on August 8, 1978 and they made their home in the Pontotoc area. He worked twenty-five years with Boatwright Motors in Pontotoc and after retiring from there worked at Hill Auto Parts. Gerald was an avid coin collector, a history buff, enjoyed hunting and loved to fish.



Gerald?s survivors include his devoted wife of thirty-five years, Pam Hand of Pontotoc; five children, Gerald Hand, II (Michelle) of Myrtle, Kitty Hand Pittman (Tud) of Pontotoc, Lesley Faye Hand Smith (Chop) of Mooreville, Hannah Marie Hand Chunn (Josh) of Pontotoc and Dwayne Seely (Sylvia) of New Albany; twelve grandchildren, Zoe, Penelope, Carsyn, Silas, Charlotte, Austin, Abby, Gage, Hope, Dalton, Don and Anna Claire; his sister, Shelia Reed (Roger) of Tupelo; his brother, Mike Hand (Debbie) of Pontotoc; his special niece, Jennifer Farrar (William) and their children, Chaise and Jackson of the Eggville Community.



He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeffer and Marie Hand; his brother, Kenneth Hand.



His pallbearers will be Dean Griffin, Rickey Boatwright, William Farrar, Tud Pittman, Chop Smith, Josh Chunn, James Elzie and Jerry Hester.



His honorary pallbearers will be Silas Smith and Austin Chunn.



A celebration of Gerald?s life with military honors will be 2 p.m. Friday, August 30, 2013 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Ken Hester officiating. A graveside service will follow at Baldwyn Memorial Gardens in Pontotoc.



The family will receive friends from 1 - 8 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013, at the funeral home.
