Tupelo - Gerald Daugherty, 81, died Friday, September 5, 2008, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. A Lee County native, he was born March 25, 1927 to Samuel M. and Ollie May Daugherty. A graduate of Shannon High School and he also attended Itawamba Community College. He was a United States Army veteran serving in the Korean War. He served 37 years with Rockwell and Pentair before retiring. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Tupelo.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, September 8, 2008 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Rick Ball officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Gertrude Wade Daugherty of Tupelo; one daughter, Mary Coward and her husband, Phillip, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; one grandson, Christopher Coward of Diamond Head, Mississippi; one grandaughter, Katherine Elizabeth Coward of Tuscaloosa and one brother, Thomas Daugherty and his wife, Elsie, of Tupelo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert M. Daugherty; three sisters, Marjorie Cox, Doris Daugherty and Peggy Daugherty.
Pallbearers will be Eric Braden, Christopher Coward, Tommy Rogers, Phillip Cox, Bill Easterling and Gary Easterling.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the former Business Mens Bible Class of First Baptist Church of Tupelo.
Visitation will be 5 - 9 p.m. Sunday, September 7, 2008 at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Building Fund or the Library of the First Baptist Church of Tupelo.
