GEORGE T. LYONS Tupelo - George Thomas Lyons, Sr., 73, died Saturday, March 24, 2012, at The Meadows in Fulton. He was born in Lee County on June 19, 1938 to William Thomas and Anne Marie Hipps Lyons. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he served in the SAC, Maintenance Squadron. He was a self-employed car dealer for many years. He was an avid collector, loved flea markets, estate sales and enjoyed people, especially the time he spent with his fellow car dealers playing cards. Services with military honors will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues. Burial will be in Andrews Chapel Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Jane Lyons, of Mantachie; three children, Sharon Kay Palmer of Mantachie, George "Sonny" Lyons, Jr.(Ann) of Tupelo and Sandra Denise Young of Mooreville; two step-daughters, Jennifer McCarter of Mantachie and Karen Rogers (Murray) of Guntown; one sister, Debra Aaron (Bill) of Houlka; six grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; the mother of his children, Shirley Lyons; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Elmo and James Lyons. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2012 at the funeral home.
