GEORGE F. ADAMS
Tupelo - Retired Chancery Court Judge, George F. Adams, 85, died Friday, May 19, 2006, at his residence in Tupelo after a lengthy illness. He was born March 28, 1921, in Pontotoc to the late Marshall T. and Willie Mae Fletcher Adams. He graduated from Columbia Military Academy in Columbia, Tenn. During World War II, he entered the Army Air Corps and was stationed in Shreveport, La. After the war, he returned to school where he received his degree from the Mississippi College School of Law. He practiced law in Tupelo for many years with his father, Marshall T. Adams, and Sam H. Long. In 1975, he became a Chancery Judge where he sat on the bench for 16 years. He was a member of the Mississippi Bar Association, Duck's Unlimited and was a Board Member Emeritus with Renasant Bank. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church. He wife of 43 years, Jeanette Woods "Jet" Adams, preceded him in death on June 26, 1997.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with the Rev. Bill McAlilly officiating. A eulogy will be given by Jack Reed Sr. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park.
Survivors include his daughter, Darden Adams Chronister and husband, Steve, of Virginia Beach, Va.; one son, George F. Adams Jr. of Tupelo; one sister, Aileen Adams Brisco of Tupelo; one brother, Marshall C. Adams of Tupelo; and two grandchildren, Charles William Best IV of Virginia Beach and George F. "Jet" Adams III of Tupelo.
Pallbearers will be Lawrence H. Brisco Jr., Marshall Briscoe, Edgar H. Woods III, John Watson, Woods Watson, Steve Chronister, Dan Nash and Greg Israel.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Lee County Bar Association and the Board of Directors of Renasant Bank.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
