GENE LANSDELL

Tupelo - Gene Lansdell, 72, died Friday, May 9, 2008, at The North Mississippi Medical Center. A Lee County native, he was born January 23, 1936 to the late Samuel D. and Rennie Pannell Lansdell. He married his wife, Barbara, of 54 years in 1953. From 1961 until 1986, he was a resident of Michigan City, Indiana where he worked in several steel mills through the Iron Workers Union, Local 395, in Hammond, Indiana. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. He was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan and was affectionately known as the best Papaw Gene in the world.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2008 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Castor Buse officiating. Burial will be in Pontotoc City Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Barbara Lansdell of Tupelo; one daughter, Candie Blansett and her husband, Patrick, of Pontotoc; three sons, Gene Lansdell and his wife, Kathleen, of Jupiter Beach, Florida, Michael Lansdell and his wife, Judy, of Baldwyn, Bob Lansdell and his fiancee, Melisa, of Pontotoc, eleven grandchildren, Justin Lansdell, Rayn Lansdell, Nicole Greenhill, Josh Lansdell, Leslie Lansdell, Austin Blansett, Parker Blansett, Faith Lansdell, Brittany Shelton, Bethany Lamb, and Shannon Pumphrey, ; one sister, Jettie Williams of Fulton; two brothers, J. W. Lansdell of Mooreville and David Lansdell of Saltillo; seven great grandchildren; a long-time special friend, Bryce Hinton of Michigan City, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandchild, Amanda Lansdell; and nine brothers and sisters.

Pallbearers will be Rusty Harris, Keith Smith, Ronnie Buse, Herman Lansdell, Tom McNinch, James David Lansdell and Bobby Tucker.

Visitation will be 5 - 9 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2008 at the funeral home.
