GENE CARDEN TUPELO- Lloyd Eugene "Gene" Carden, 68, died Monday, December 24, 2012, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. He was born June 15, 1944, in Rome, Georgia to James Osmond Carden and Myra Virginia Smith Carden. He married Ann Massey Carden on June 11, 1966, and they were married for 46 years. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Rome, Georgia and attended church at The Orchard in Tupelo, Mississippi. He graduated from The Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters of Science in Industrial Management. For more than 20 years, he worked as General Manager at Hunter Douglas in Tupelo, MS (retired in June 2012). He worked hard to keep his employees safe at work. He was especially proud of the VPP Award (Volunteer Protection Program) presented through OSHA in 2002. He served on the Tupelo Country Club Board and Women's First of Tupelo and was also a member of Georgia Tech Alumni Club. He enjoyed sailing, travel and golf. He cared deeply for his family. He is survived by his wife, Ann Massey Carden; two daughters, Jody Carden Lehman (Bobby); and, Amy Carden (Will Smith); father, James Osmond Carden (Arlene) brother, Gary Carden (Lynn); brother, Carlton Carden (Joy); sister, Neva Carden Clark (Jim); three grandchildren, Paris Eden, Carden Alexander and Pierce Taylor. He is preceded in death by his mother, Myra Virginia Smith Carden. A private family Celebration of Life Service will be held at The Orchard, Tupelo, MS. Charitable donations to the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
