Gene Blount, 76, peacefully entered his Heavenly home on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at North Mississippi Medical Center following a sudden illness. Born on December 4, 1948, in Bruce, Mississippi, Gene was the beloved son of Alvin Wilson Blount and Hazel Annabelle Wakeland Blount.

Gene's talent and passion for football were evident from a young age. A standout athlete at Bruce High School, he continued his football career at Northwest Community College. During his time at NCC, Gene was drafted into the United States Army, where he honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. A devoted Christian, he loved the Lord faithfully and lived his life as a testament to his unwavering faith. After his military service, Gene became an ordained minister.

Following his military service, Gene earned his associate degree from Northwest Community College, where he was elected as the Student Body President, showcasing his leadership and dedication. He was a hardworking businessman, owning and operating Clean Sweep and Crown Tree Service for many years, building a legacy of integrity and perseverance.

Gene had a warm, social nature and never missed an opportunity to meet new people. He cherished time spent with friends over a cup of coffee and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his free time. Above all, Gene deeply loved his family, with a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy.

Gene leaves behind his wife, Betty Blount; seven children, Jennifer Perez and her husband, Victor, Cristil Blount-Miranda and her husband, Rigoberto, Levi Blount and his wife, Kendra, Victor Biederbeck and wife Brinley, Sam Schulz and his wife, Kimberly, Jeff Schulz and his, wife, Brandy, and Markcolas “Mark” Schulz; 15 grandchildren, Gene Guadarrama and wife, Jade, Phillip "Alex" Guadarrama and special friend, Michelle, Lilly Ortega, Sophia Ortega, ,Michael Hidalgo and wife, Cindy, Pedro Hidalgo, Elizabeth Hidalgo, Violet Biederbeck, Elliott Biederbeck, Kierstin Hester and her husband, Will, Paris Clark, Zachari Clark, Kennedy Schulz, Bryson Schulz and special friend, Brianna Sanders, and Allyson Lindsey and her husband, Dustin; and four great-grandchildren, Jade Campbell-Seal, Nova Guadarrama, Beckham Schulz, and Harrison Lindsey. Also to remember his memories are his three sisters, Leatrice Henry and husband, Jim, Patricia McDonald, and Lynn Woodridge and husband, Kenny, as well as many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Duane Wakeland and wife, Jerri, and Alvin Blount, Jr. and wife, Janie; and one sister, Myra Joe Turner.

Visitation will be 4 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Pegues, Tupelo. 

Services honoring his life will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues with Pastor Billy Wayne Henderson officiating.
