GENE BENTLEY

Saltillo - Gene Bentley, 75, died Tuesday, October 17, 2006, at North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. A Lee County native, he was born February 12, 1931 to the late Hugh and Ruth Neaves Bentley. He had been the assistant manager for Play Craft in Saltillo for 30 years. He aslo worked for CDF of Tupelo in maintenance and was self employed as a carpenter. He enjoyed woodworking and wood crafting, hunting, fishing, and playing dominoes. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and was known by his family and friends as "Yea Yea." He was a member of First Baptist Church of Saltillo.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 20, 2006 at The Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Dr. Rex Yancey and Sammy Lansdell officiating. Burial will be in Fellowship Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Joann Bentley of Saltillo; his children, Kelly Smith and husband, Steve, of Moody, Ala., and Terry Bentley and wife, Annette, of Saltillo; one brother, Allen Bentley of Long Island, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Dayton Bentley, and Leslie Cochran and husband, Chuck, all of Saltillo, Kayla Wentz and husband, Charlie, and Kassi Byington, all of Ashville, Ala.; and four great-grandchildren, Bentley Cochran of Saltillo, Luke Alan Bentley of Tuscaloosa, Ala, and Gavin and Peyton Grace Wentz, of Ashville, Ala..

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ottis Homer

Pallbearers will be Ronnie VanBuskirk, Mike VanBuskirk, Bill Lee, Robert "Bob Lee, Larry Hamner, and James Woodall.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Mission Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church of Saltillo and his Dominoe Playing Friends.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home in Saltillo
