Tupelo - Gary Robert Kimmel, 75, died Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. He was born in upstate New York September 21, 1934, to Harry and Alice Farrell Kimmel. He graduated from Old Forge High School near Eagle Bay, New York where he was raised. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He then went on to The University of Southern Mississippi where he graduated with a degree in business. His extensive career in garment manufacturing took him and his family all over the United States. He retired in 1995 to Cotter, Ark on the White River where he enjoyed fishing everyday. While in Arkansas, he was very active in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, serving as church treasurer and chairman of the finance committee. He and his wife moved to Tupelo five years ago. He also enjoyed golf, duck hunting and was an avid collector of decoys. He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at All Saints Episcopal Church with Rev. Pamela Morgan and Rev. Paul Stephens officiating. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife Sue Wallace "Wally" Farish Kimmel of Tupelo; four children, Thomas Kimmel (Robin) of Nashville, Tenn., Helen Kimmel Monts (Mark) of Tupelo, Michael Kimmel of Tupelo, and Mary Wallace "Molly" Kimmel Fleming (Russell) of Memphis, Tenn.; one sister, Anita Kimmel Ullman, of Tustin, Calif.; four grandchildren, Kimmel Monts and Curtis Monts, both of Tupelo, Ellen Andrews of Nashville, and Thomas Fleming of Memphis.
Pallbearers will be John Marshall Sharp, Andrew Morrissette Sharp, William Cunningham Sharp, Robert McClellan Sharp, and Robert Ernest Steward, Jr.
Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time in the church parlor Saturday.
