Gary Enis Sr.
Tupelo—Gary Alan Enis Sr. passed away Thursday, May 25, 2023 at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was 70 years old. Born September 4, 1952 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, he was the son of Fredrick McEllis (Mack) Enis and Ruth Knautz Enis. He was a 1970 graduate of Tupelo High School where he lettered in football and baseball. He attended Itawamba Junior College where he met his future wife and soul mate, Patsy Donald Enis. On July 10, 1971 they were married and enjoyed nearly 52 years together. He worked as a machine operator for Rockwell/Delta International for 33 years. He later drove a school bus for the Tupelo Public School District for nine years. He was a member of Oak Ridge Christian Church for more than 60 years, where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, deacon, and song leader. Gary had a devout faith and spent many years studying the Bible. He was a strong witness of his faith to those around him and anyone he met. Active in the community, Gary coached Tupelo Park and Recreation baseball and soccer. He also coached the Tupelo Junior American Legion and Chesterville Baseball teams. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and golfer. Gary is remembered as a great story teller and had a great sense of humor. His greatest joy came from his family who meant the world to Gary.
Gary leaves behind his wife, Patsy; three sons, Gary Alan Enis Jr. (Cathy), Mark Enis (Nicole), and Josh Enis; his daughter, Ginger Enis; Grandsons, Garrett Enis, Max Enis, John Patrick Enis, Miles Enis, and Kevin Ramay (Aly); sisters, Linda Scruggs (Jerry), Mary Ruth Roberts (Don); his brother, Richard “Richy” Enis; nieces, Susan Bowen, Leanne Howell, Anna Merritt Clark, Kate Roberts, Jeannie Kaye Jernigan, Angie Blanton, Kacie Reeves, Deborah Johnson, Misty Stephenson, Melanie Ewing, Lindsey Gobbell, Sara Beth Renick, and Shelly Swords; nephews, Jay Scruggs, Weston Roberts, Kirk Roberts, Danny Wayne Webb, Derrick Webb, Chris Webb, and Greg Tollison; an uncle, Erich Knautz of Kenosha, Wisconsin; and two aunts, Charlotte Gehrand of Union Grove, Wisconsin and Dorothy Hermann of Kenosha, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Adolph and Minna Knautz of Kenosha, Wisconsin and Thomas “TJ” Jackson and Virginia Enis of Baldwyn.
Visitation will be 3 until 6 p.m. Saturday, May 27, 2023 at Oak Ridge Christian Church and 1 p.m. until service time Sunday at the church. A celebration of Gary’s life will be 3 p.m. Sunday, May 28, 2023 with Bro. Jerry Scruggs and Bro. Archie Taflinger officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park. Pegues Funeral Directors has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Gary’s nephews will serve as pallbearers.
