Mooreville - Gary Paul Dickerson, 58, died Friday, September 26, 2008, at The North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born November 27, 1949 in Tupelo to Paul E Bid and Earline Smith Dickerson. He was a 1967 graduate of Mooreville High School and a 1974 graduate of the University of Mississippi. He was a United States Navy Corpsman who served with the Marine Corps. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and the recipient of two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. He married his wife, Diane, November 27, 1971. He made Mooreville his home the past 34 years. He served as an Election Commissioner, enjoyed coaching, ball teams and was an avid Ole Miss Rebel and Mooreville Trooper fan. He also served as a long-time counselor for the Rustic Youth Camp. He was a member of Northeast church of Christ.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 29, 2008 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Bro. Johnny Richardson and Bro. Jackie Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Cross Roads Cemetery with full military honors.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 37 years, Diane Dickerson, of Mooreville; one son, Greg Dickerson and his wife, Ashlie, of Springfield, Missouri; one daughter, Carmen Perkins and her husband, Morgan, of Mooreville; his mother, Earline Dickerson of Mooreville; four grandchildren, Shelby Miller and Joe Paul Perkins of Mooreville, Bailey Dickerson of El Paso, Texas and Katelyn Dickerson of Springfield, Missouri; one sister, Reba Patterson and her husband, George, of Mooreville; four nephews and one niece.
He was preceded in death by his father, his grandparents and an infant brother, Daniel Gregg Dickerson.
Pallbearers will be Jamie Franks, Derik Rushing, Warren Ray, Mark Jobe, Phillip Hicks and Ricky Thompson.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Mark Pomeroy, Earl Clark, Neil Gregory and Tim Dickerson.
Visitation will be 5 - 9 p.m. Sunday, September 28, 2008 at the funeral home.
