FRED A. MURPHREE
Tupelo - Fred Allen Murphree, 79, passed away Monday, April 17, 2017, at North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born July 16, 1937, to Theodore and Louise Farned Murphree. He earned his Eagle Scout and his Order of the Arrow. Dr. Murphree received his undergraduate degree from Milsaps College, Masters from Mississippi State University in entomology and his doctorate from University of Tennessee School of Dentistry on March 21, 1965. He was a Fellow of American College of Dentistry and a Fellow of International College of Dentistry and served on the Mississippi State Board of Dental Examination for 4 years. Dr. Murphree was a 32nd Degree Mason Shrinner. He loved trophy hunting. Dr. Murphree loved animals and to show his show dogs, Irish Wolfhounds and Komondorok. Dr. Murphree was a people person and was Methodist by faith. He practiced dentistry for 52 years, 50 of them being in Tupelo.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Vickey Murphree of Tupelo; sons, Fred A. Murphree, Jr. (Chanis Hall) of Nettleton and Mark Murphree, J.D. (Kristen Clikas) of Mobile, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore “Treetop” and Louise Murphree and sister, Glinda Sue Murphree.
Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until service time Friday, April 21, 2017, at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.
A Celebration of Dr. Murphree's life will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2017, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Betty Flynn officiating.
