Fred M. Ingellis Tupelo - It is with great sadness that the family of Fred M. Ingellis, 90, announce that he has passed away surrounded by his loving family on November 9, 2014 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was born in New York City, NY January 28, 1924, to the late August and Mary Ingellis. He moved to Tupelo in 1945 with his wife, Virginia, after serving his God and Country with honor in the US Army Air Corps during World War II. He, as well as his loving wife of 70 years, devoted his life to serving others through his many positions in the American Legion Tupelo Post 49 since 1945. He also served his country as Mississippi State Commander and National Vice Commander of the American Legion. During Governor John Bell Williams' term, he was honored to serve as a Colonel. He served his adopted state as State Athletic Commissioner. He was owner of Tupelo Body Shop for 50 years. He was a long time member of the St. James Catholic Church of Tupelo and a charter member of the St. James chapter of the Knights of Columbus. He was loved by all who knew him for he never turned away anyone in need. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend and will be sorely missed by his world. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Lee Ingellis of Tupelo, whom he married September 23, 1944; his loving children, Michele Pickard "Mickie" of Maumelle, AR, Maria Ingellis Everett (friend Joe Kiddy) of Tupelo, and Fred Anthony "Tony" Ingellis (Belinda) of Amory; his brother, Joseph Ingellis of Connecticut; sisters-in-law, Hanna Ingellis and Lee Ingellis of New York and Bobbie Christian of Tupelo; brother-in-law, Marlow "Buddy" Christian of Tupelo; four beloved grandchildren, Kellie Dickey (Lynn), Ashlie Ardoin (Eric) and Christopher Ingellis (Amanda) of Maumelle, AR and Shane Ingellis of Tupelo and six great-grandchildren, Alexis Sadler, Isabella and Nicholas Ingellis and Ella and Vivian Ardoin of Maumelle and Addisyn Ingellis of Tupelo, who brought great joy in his later years; special friends, George Bogardus and Jackie Phipps; many extended family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Mary Ingellis of NYC; his sister and brother-in-law, Teresa and Jimmy Quintiliani of NYC; his brother and sister-in-law, Vincent and Gloria Ingellis of Puerto Rico; his brothers, Daniel Ingellis and Leonard Ingellis also of NYC; a granddaughter, Hope Ingellis of Tupelo and loving daughter-in-law, Kathie Herring Ingellis. Pallbearers will be his nephews, Mark Christian, Jimmy Mitchell, Danny Mitchell, Kevin Christian, and friends, Dennis Carlock, Joe Kiddy and Rob Gardner. Honorary pallbearers will be members of The American Legion Post 49 Tupelo. Rosary will be at 1 p.m. Thursday November 13, 2014 with funeral service to follow at the St. James Catholic Church with Father Lincoln Dall officiating, a military burial and presentation of the flag by John Blanchard at Lee Memorial Park will follow. Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m. Wednesday 12, 2014 at Jefferson Street of W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors. In celebration of his love and devotion to his God and Country, the family asked that memorials be made to the Sanctuary Hospice House or American Legion Post 49 Rebuilding Fund. His family would like to express their thanks to the Sanctuary Hospice House for the wonderful loving care bestowed on their precious husband, father and grandfather during his last days.
